In Sunrise we are presented with a large, nuclear Australian family assembled for their patriarch's birthday in his estate on the top of a hill. It is the familiar tale of a dysfunctional family unravelling at a tribal celebration. But Nowra explores their pain in new and subtle ways. He creates a realistic world and fills it with recognizable people, but soon dreams and nightmares intrude.
