Lowe’s acclaimed play is a startling and savage voyage into the US porn industry. In a stunning series of compelling and confronting vignettes it charts the progress and regress of pornstar Joey Stefano. The Stefano story is the classic Cinderella story – a grim, evocative and sometimes hilarious portrait of the American Dream gone berserk. Stefano, the James Dean of gay porno, is a bona fide 20th century icon. Born Nicholas Anthony Iacona Jnr., poor white trash in Chester, Pennsylvania, he was destined for a life of menial labour, petty prostitution and drug abuse. But he had a “special” trump card: one of the most perfect bubble butts in America. He parlayed his ass from hicksville Pennsylvania to Los Angeles where he became one of the hottest top bottoms in 1990’s porno films. Stefano became the fantasy for a generation of gay men and straight women. He lived fast and died young. A ONE-MAN show.

This play was first produced in 1999 by Shrieking Violets Theatre Company at Belvoir Street Theatre Downstairs as part of Sydney Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras and was then transferred to the Lion Theatre in Adelaide as part of the FEAST Festival. In June 1999, two productions were produced in the U.S. at the Sanford Meisner Theatre in New York and the Bailiwick Theatre in Chicago followed by a tour to South Beach Florida, Miami and Detroit. The turn of the century brought another two new sell-out productions by Performing Arts Productions presented at Theatreworks in Melbourne as part of the Midsumma Gay & Lesbian Festival and the Blue Room in Perth as part of the inaugural Perth Fringe Festival. “Homme Fatale” was also recently produced at Teatro Colesseo in Rome.
