SEX IS A DRUG AND HE NEEDED TO SCORE!
Although he starred in fewer than forty adult films, Jon Vincent (aka Jeff Vickers) was one of the most popular, most recognisable, and most durable stars of the all male adult film industry. Known for his near-competitive level physique and his non-stop erotic verbal pyrotechnics, his was a persona unlike any other in gay or straight porn. On screen and off, he possessed the kind of high voltage charisma that could only be called star quality. From his first starring vehicle in 1988, he was idolized and emulated more as a paradigm of male sexual iconography. By 1990, he was earning more than a hundred thousand dollars a year, as well as a reputation for being drunk, difficult to work with, and dependent on a variety of dangerous drugs. He died ten years later, a heroin addict. He was thirty-seven years old. A Thousand and One Night Stands is Vincents true story, the moral inventory of his life, conceived in the months prior to his tragic but inevitable death. A fast paced and riveting play, which possesses appeal on many levels. From Vincents aborted career as a baseball player to his days of fame as a porn star, dancer and high-priced prostitute.
"A Thousand and One Night Stands" is the story of a life derailed, a life begun in bright promise and ended, prematurely, in despair. The play also takes the audience on a harrowing, humorous and sexy journey through the seductive, so-called glamorous world of gay and straight porn and its seamier satellites: male strip clubs and prostitution. In the tradition of William Burroughs classic book Junkie, acclaimed director Robert Chuter, chronicles one mans struggle with heroin addiction from the pseudo-glamour of shooting up at Hollywood penthouse drug parties to the degradation of scoring with the bums in the slums of L.A. Famous and infamous, a one-timer love of Joey Stefano, Vincent was ruggedly handsome, driven and talented. He was extremely charming and seductive - a man who could persuade nearly anyone to do nearly anything and he did. Straight and married three times (twice officially) with a teenage son, Vincent was a thrill junkie: a compulsive seeker of sexual adventure, physical danger, steroids, prostitution, alcohol, cocaine and finally heroin.
"A Thousand and One Night Stands" is an experience that will continue to affect the audience long after the curtain has gone down.
Presented as part of 2004 MIDSUMMA, Melbourne's Gay & Lesbian Festival and sponsored by GENESIS FITNESS CLUBS.
