The Enid Bennet Memorial Theatre Festival

This Inaugural Festival is aimed at giving amateur theatre in Western Australia an opportunity to perform in a wonderful Heritage Venue and to bring their skills and style to Country Western Australia.

If your theatre is interested in performing in the festival or members of your theatre would just like to come along and watch, the following details may be of assistance to you.

The festival will commence on Saturday June 29th and carry on to the 30th. The exact program will be dependent upon how many theatres wish to perform, but basically we plan to commence with a Thespian Brunch which will include the official opening and the unveiling of two dressing room plaques, in memory of Enid and Marjorie Bennet. This will be a relaxing event with some live entertainment and the opportunity for a glass or two of wine.

We plan to give people the opportunity to have a look around York and see the sights, grab some dinner at a range of local venues and then head in for the plays.

Each One Act Play is to take a maximum of 45 minutes. Emphasis is to be on acting and direction. A basic set will be available as will basic lighting. There will only be 15 minutes available turn around time between presentations, so it would be advisable to have a minimum of props. You will also need to be aware that The York Town Hall has a raised stage, which is slightly angled from back to front.

There is seating for up to 400 people and a bar and snacks will be available on the night. There will be no charge for entry to the event, however a gold coin donation to the restoration of the Town Hall will be welcome.

Any further information can be directly gained from calling Cindy Tyler at the Shire of York on 9641 2233.
