Weekend of Workshops

Interact '02 is coming! The ITA has been working hard in contacting facilitators to present classes at our "weekend of workshops". Still on the front page of this website is the preliminary information about Interact, to be held over the long weekend of June 1, 2, 3 in Kalamunda (WA). We are planning at least 30 theatre-related workshops to run over Saturday, Sunday and the public holiday Monday, wherein participants can pick and choose from the variety of workshops on offer (first come, first served).

The ITA has organised workshops in the past (and so too have individual clubs) but rather than traipsing all the way into Perth (or wherever) for a single two-hour class, we have arranged the event so that you can spend the entire weekend (or maybe just one day, if you prefer) in one location studying multiple topics.

The exact programme is still being finalised. We've approached experienced facilitators from the WA Academy of Performing Arts, Barking Gecko, Buzz Dance, TheatreSports, Actors Management, and more. We're still waiting on confirmation of times and days from a few of these people. However, I can report that we are thrilled to have Dr Geoff Gibbs (former head of WAAPA), Noel O'Neill (award-winning director, studied at the Lee Strasberg Institute of New York), Don Allen (WA lighting guru), Andy Fraser (professional stage combat choreographer and practitioner), Lucy Eyre (WAAPA graduate experienced in audition technique, improvisation and scriptwriting), Sonia Garbellini (professional makeup artist), Stephen Furtado (TAFE lecturer in singing), Grant Malcolm (award-winning director and webmaster), Don Smith (mime, improv and clowning expert), representatives from "Sacred Theatre", Andrew Horabin (body language expert from Ovations Edu-tainment, Katrina Bercov ("commercial opportunities from theatre" also from Ovations Edu-tainment), and more....

Places are filling fast and we are limited to about 200 participants. The cost is $50 for three days of workshops, or $20 for a single day. That's less than $7 per two-hour professional workshop! We have prepared an accommodation guide for anyone who'd like to stay in Kalamunda for the weekend, and are organising entertainment for the evenings. For more information or bookings, please ring Terry or George Hackett on 9293-4746. We'll keep you posted with exact information about the programme. Please do not leave it too late, we need to know numbers asap!
