DramaFest Update

Walter Plinge | 02/08/2002 - 14:16

The deadline is approaching for entry to this year's WA State One-Act Drama Festivals, YouthFest and DramaFest 2002. As previously announced on this site, both Festivals will be held at The Xanten Performing Arts Centre in the grounds of St Norbert College (Treasure Rd, Queens Park).

For the first time in five years, DramaFest cannot be held at Harbour Theatre in the Fremantle Education Centre. Both Freo Ed Centre and Harbour are very supportive, but the Festival would have clashed with classes at the Ed Centre.

Of course, The Xanten Centre doesn't have the wonderful Clancy's next door, but it doesn't have Fremantle's horrendous parking problems either. The Xanten has tons of free parking, storage areas nearby, stage doors, a spacious foyer, modern equipment, and seats for an audience of 194. YouthFest has been held there for the past two years to much acclaim.

We have already announced that the adjudicator for YouthFest 2002 is Ms Jenny McNae. DramaFest (AdultFest?) has caused a few scheduling hiccups, but I'm very happy to announce that Mr Chris Edmund is returning as adjudicator. Chris is the Head of Directing at the WA Academy of Performing Arts, and proved to be a very popular adjudicator at DramaFest 2000.

Club secretaries should have all the details (and much info can be found on this site) but if anyone is thinking of getting together a last-minute entry, please contact the ITA Secretary, Norma Davis, at . Anyone can enter a play into DramaFest (but if you're an ITA member, the entry fee is cheaper). YouthFest is open to all clubs, theatres and schools, provided the participants are 18 years or younger.

YouthFest: September 14 (and 15 if entries warrant)
Healthway Be Smoke-Free DramaFest: September 27, 28, 29.

Look forward to seeing you there.
