Well, last weekend , the ITA held the State Drama Festival. It was a fantastic opportunity to see what an amazing array of talent there is in Perth. The clubs that entered the Festival gave their audiences a wonderful insight into the work that is being done.

For all of the young aspiring actors who want to find out what is going on in the world of community theatre in Perth and for anyone who regards themselves as an actor in our community , you really should come along to the ENCORE night .

The Encore night is otherwise known as the "Best of the Fest". It is the night when some of the plays that received the highest awards at the Festival join together to present one night of one act play highlights.

This year you will be able to see the play that was awarded the best play at the Youth festival, the play that was awarded best play at the South West Festival and the State drama festival ( a very rare event !) and the plays that have been awarded best actor, best actress and best supporting actress. What more could you want in one night's entertainment???

John Milson, adjudicator of the South West Festival, made the comment that it is imperative for everyone who wants to succeed in this industry, be it professional or community ,to watch other people's work. Find out what is happening, see the talent that is around , see what type of plays are being done, give yourself a yardstick to work from etc.

Here is your opportunity. The Perth theatre community seems to be quite strong in the number of plays that are being performed all over the place, but don't seem to be that good at supporting each other's work or clubs. Let's stop only looking at our own work and come along, support the other clubs, encourage the other clubs and at the same time , give yourself a really good nights entertainment!
