The Importance Of Being Earnest is up for another airing in August, touring south west WA and then at the Subiaco Arts Centre.

And John, the same cast is also doing Hamlet, which should satisfy your Shakespeare urge.

Check out Class Act for more info.

Cheers,
Craig

LOL, you do realise how bad this comment will look if it's us freddie...

Still, in our midsummer's we'd have nudity, Horns, wooing with swords and love won by it doing injuries, kinky love triangles, lots of talks about the queens cowslips and a great big ASS... Hey, that sounds like a pretty good show. Let's do that!

Oh wait... I hate that play... Or do I (see, now I look all mysterious)

p.s. I really do hate fairy wings! Stupid victorian invention... I'm pretty sure I can pin all this on you J.M. Barry (or barrie)

"I'm pretty sure I can pin all this on you J.M. Barry (or barrie)"

Barrie is correct and while he gave us Tinkerbell, he was simply highlighting the fairy craze at the time. As for fairy (or should I say faerie) wings, J M Barrie never envisioned wings, at least not in his play. His fairies were simply a spot of light and a tinkle sound. We can blame Disney for Tink's wings. Eye-wink

The concept of Wings on Fairies was formed much earlier than Barrie's Tinkerbell, through 18th Century Painters such as Joseph Noël Paton, John Anster Fitzgerald, Richard Dadd, Richard Doyle, Daniel Maclise, Thomas Heatherly and Eleanor Fortesque–Brickdale. "Fairies enabled Victorian painters to explore the subject of sexuality during the very years when that subject was most repressed in polite society. Paintings of the nude were deemed acceptable so long as those nudes sported fairy wings."

Just to clarify the issue. Laughing out loud

im a little confused, not neccessarily being a les mis fan but at the same time not minding it, isn't only done like once be one theatre company every two or three years?

and while yes that is often compared to shows like earnest, little shop, and midsummers which are done by three or four companies every year i have no clue why les mis is leading the poll

reply

Why Les Mis?
Author: Paul Treasure
Date: 24/07/2009 - 08:34

Well, my guess is that even though Earnest and Dream are done ALL THE TIME, every production is different, and each one, although having the same script, seems like a different show.

Les Mis on the other hand has a "way it should be done" which makes it feel like you are seeing exactly the same production over and over and over again...

All together now:
"At the end of the play you're another year older,
Sitting flat on your bum for three hours or more..."

Gotta love Forbidden Broadway Laughing out loud
