Dear All,
This is a notice regarding dates and times for a short series of stage combat workshops. There are three in total and each one is aimed at a particular group of theatrical practitioners: Directors, Stage Management and Actors. They are certainly not exclusive to each other, its just that the focus will be geared towards the varying needs of each group and how those people work with a Fight Director.
All workshops will be held at Perth College in Mt. Lawley, W.A. and will be hosted by Andy Fraser, Fight Director and W.A. Representative with the Society of Australian Fight Directors Inc.
The fee for each workshop will be $10 which includes coffee/tea and appropriate handouts. Bookings are essential as numbers are limited. Booking for all three workshops will attract a discounted fee of $25. To reserve a place or to get further information, please contact Andy directly on 0417-980-366, or by e-mail: stagecombatperth@yahoo.com.au
Details for each workshop follow below. Best wishes for all of your projects and continuing thoughts and prayers for Patrick & Jo.
Happy Swashbuckling!
Andy Fraser

1) DIRECTORS - WORKING WITH A FIGHT DIRECTOR
Monday November 10, 6:30-8:30 p.m.
This is a non-physical, seminar format workshop which will explore the working relationship between a Director and a Fight Director in the context of production. Starting right from the beginning with play selection and casting, through rehearsals, opening night and the duration of the run, participants will have the opportunity to discuss and establish "best practise". It will give directors the chance to express what their expectations would be when working with a Fight Director and, similarily, what a Fight Director will expect from them.
2) STAGE MANAGEMENT - WORKING WITH A FIGHT DIRECTOR
Monday November 17, 6:30-8:30 p.m.
This is a non-physical, seminar format workshop similar in approach to the Directors workshop described above, but geared towards the working relationship between Stage Management and a Fight Director. Topics to be covered will include arranging fight calls (including Tech. and Dress), weapon hire, weapon maintenance, weapon security, fight notation, special effects and much more.
3) ACTORS - WORKING WITH 'FOUND WEAPONS'
Tuesday November 18, 6:30-8:30 p.m.
This is a highly physical workshop in which actors will explore the process of using Found Weapons in a dramatic context. Found Weapons are essentially domestic items which wouldn't normally be viewed as a traditional weapon, but in the appropriate dramatic circumstances, could be used as such. Participants will explore the safe and dramatically effective use of such objects in order to create convincing theatrical violence. Participants on this workshop will be asked to bring an item of their own from home that they don't mind treating roughly for a couple of hours!
Thanks for reading, hope to see you there!
