This is just a brief notification for the Western Regional Stage Combat Workshop.
The course is taking place from Sept. 5-11, 2005 and is being held at the Old Masonic Hall, Nedlands, WA. Classes will run from approximately 9-5 each day of the workshop with appropriate warm-ups and warm-downs.
This is a one-week intensive course and provides participants with the opportunity to certify in Stage Combat proficiency through the Society of Australian Fight Directors Inc. The levels offered are (in ascending order): Basic, Intermediate and Advanced. There are no prerequisites for Basic and it is the ideal starting point for those with little or no stage combat training. Each of the higher levels requires successful completion of the previous level.
The course fee is $450 and includes all costs including certification fee and weapons/equipment provision. There is a $50 discount available to any participant who is a member of any one of the following: M.E.A.A., S.A.F.D.I., I.T.A., Dramawest, full-time student, unemployed. Only one discount per person. So, all those full-time students who are MEAA members and have just lost their bartending job, sorry, but you cannot have $150 off!
The instructors on the workshop are fully-qualified S.A.F.D.I. Instructors and Fight Directors. The current line-up is:
Andy Fraser, Fight Director (Black Swan Theatre Company, Deckchair Theatre)
Nigel Poulton, Fight Director (Bell Shakespeare Company, Melbourne Theatre Company)
Both instructors bring a wealth of experience to the workshop having taught and choreographed all around Australia as well as internationally in the UK, Canada, USA and Japan. They also love pizza and beer and can absolutely guarantee that you will enjoy yourself, get completely knackered, stay safe and learn heaps about stage combat.
