Blak Yak Theatre is proud to announce auditions for the latest in our popular series of Pratchett plays: THE TRUTH.
Blak Yak has earned a reputation for successful stage adaptations of other media. Dead Poets Society, Red Dwarf, Men Behaving Badly, Human Traffic, The Last Supper; alongside classics like One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Lysistrata, Amadeus. But, no matter where we go, no matter what shows we stage, people always ask us, "When are you going to do another Pratchett?"
Long before Harry Potter, Terry Pratchett was writing about wizards and witches, dragons and demons, fantasy lands and realms of the dead - all in a tongue-in-cheek style reminiscent of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. With over 30 books beneath his belt, many of them have been successfully adapted for the stage and have proved as popular as the best-selling novels.
Blak Yak was the first theatre group in Australia to mount a Pratchett production. From 1997's Mort, through to Guards! Guards!, Wyrd Sisters, Maskerade, Sourcery and Hogfather, Blak Yak has a reputation as the original and the best presenters of Pratchett productions.
And now we're back. In answer to all those who keep asking, cajoling and begging, finally, Blak Yak is bringing you The Truth.
"The Truth" is one of Terry Pratchett's most recent novels and stage adaptations. Set on the medieval Dyskworld (flat, like a pizza - no anchovies, though), "The Truth" tells the tale of William de Worde who accidentally becomes the dysk's first investigative reporter, uncovering a plot to do away with the citys Machiavellian Patrician. Matters are complicated by two Pulp Fiction-esque hit men, a reformed vampire, a talking dog, a very proper young lady, a man with a funny shaped vegetable, a zombie vampire, and many other characters you would regularly find in the parliament of any major city.
