Ben Elton’s
“Gasping”

“Other people’s air, it’ll get right up your nose”

Having had enormous fun and received such a wonderful response from critics and audience alike in its production of Silly Cow this time last year, Artistic Director of Unseen Theatre Company Pamela Munt could not resist the idea of producing another marvellously witty comedy from the pen of Ben Elton.

This time the ingenious author of television shows like The Young Ones and Black Adder has an insightful dig at the world of corporate executives, advertising agencies and perhaps even the community that condones their existence.

His slick over-confident, yet sometimes toadying characters are given lines that read as though they should be delivered faster than a speeding bullet. Their appropriateness is completed with the ‘newspeak’ abbreviations of the ‘in’ people of 1990 when yuppies ruled the world.

“An often hilarious satire on yuppiedom, advertising and corporate greed”
(The Daily Telegraph)

“A sharp witted satire on the heartlessness of market forces….this is the kind of improbable hypothesis that Aristophanes and Ben Jonson relished as the starting point for a play and Elton displays some of their talent for pursuing an idea to its demented logical conclusion” (Independent)

What they said about last year’s Silly Cow:- “It’s impressively neat in construction with a cast (who) let Elton’s slick one liners fly with impressive accuracy.” (Ewart Shaw, Advertiser)
Gasping will be directed by Merri Brown and features Ron Hughes, Philip Lineton, Leo Baker, Pamela Munt and Vic Mazone.

The Theatre on Chester (Sydney) presents
The Servant of Two Masters

Written by Carlos Goldini. Re-Written by Nick Enright and Ron Blair.

Carla Moore

Goldoni is made grouse in this colourful and riotous comic masterpiece. Truffaldino doesn’t really think through the problems inherent in having two bosses – especially when they’re unaware of each other’s presence and desperate to get back into each other’s pants. Our hero reckons he’s found a way of increasing his coin and food income on his labour. Or, as he puts it: “two masters, two wages, two dinners – too right!”
