ok if you think you can do a better job then everyone who was involved this year join next year and show us cause i really think you have to think about that a bit more. this show was the first ever theatre show for the sound tech and the cast did a wonderful job. and if you think you can do a better script or music why dont you come up with them and have them considered.

To Embarrassed,
In reply to your comment about this years show it sounds like sour grapes to me from someone who didn't get their way.As a parent who has been involed with the show for a few years this years show was maybe not the best show that has ever been performed but it wasn't the worst.
The sound/music was probably the best quality for a number of years, and as to the cast size it has been getting smaller for at least the last five years if not longer if there was more promotion at the group level then maybe the cast sizes would grow and the audience well two sell out nights and matinee i think thats says enough.
If you think you can do a better job stop bitching and put your money where your mouth is and get involved.
And if your that embarrassed with the show then stay away we don't need you

As an Gang member from 1988 - 2001, I went to see this years show with and open (ish) mind. And was pleasantly surprised. The directors and choreographers did a great job with the small number of cast and stage space they had to work with.

While it wasn't what is a typical gang show the concept of writing the show more like a musical worked quite well.

I did feel sometimes that the cast were under rehearsed in some numbers and relied on the stronger dancers to follow.

At some points the music was a little loud and the cast were slightly drowned out, but hey since when has everyone been able to be heard in a Gang Show.

While personally I missed the big full cast dance numbers, the choreography wasn't too bad for the size of stage.

I have to admit that some of the music choices were a little lost on me, but that is just my personal opinion.

My biggest gripe is that there were cast members in the foyer during the interval, not just using the bathrooms, but talking to audience members. To me that is a big no no. If we had of done that in our day we would've known that was wrong. I understand that the only bathrooms that the cast could use were the same as the audience, but the cast members I saw all had plenty of time during the show to go then.

I agree with Grant in that Gang Show is a training platform. Not just in theatre, but in team work, commitment and most of all having a really good time.

I would never give up my time at Gang Show for anything. I certainly wouldn't be doing theatre now if it hadn't been for the amazing and supportive people I have met there.

Maybe Embarrassed you need to remember what Gang Show is all about and not pick at it because you don't think it was what you had previously known as Gang Show.

We all need to move with the times and Gang Show is no exception.

I would just like to congratulate the cast and crew for a job well done.

PS
Congratulations to Mrs C, Janet, Norma and Bill for their induction into the hall of fame. You guys rock

This is my second year being involved with Perth Gang Show and I thought the script was wonderfully written, especially as it was written by someone outside the Scouting movement. Awesome job Kira! The music fitted the acts perfectly and the dances were choreographed to perfection. To the writer to whom I am replying to....I didnt notice anyone leaving within 15 mins of the show starting or any time after that, other than the end. Well, couldnt have been that bad now, could it? If you are willing to put your money where your mouth is, then we will see you as part of the team for next years show, wont we!

I've not bothered reading Embarassed's message - it's been voted out of view where it probably belongs. But I couldn't let the opportunity pass to add my two cents' worth.

I was involved in the very first Perth Gang Show at the Octagon Theatre in 1981 and before that with WesGang that performed at the 1979 Jamboree. I had some involvement in a couple of subsequent shows and my local MelGang but didn't get to see any for a couple of decades until a couple of year's back - thanks for the trip down memory lane, Don Allen!

In my relatively ancient experience the Scout Association's Gang Shows provide invaluable opportunities to very young and not so young participants to build and exercise performance skills. Any production that is focused on skills development and providing opportunities for young people is likely to require some compromise in production values. As long as the smiles are as apparent on the faces of the particpants as described above, the balance is almost certainly right.

Cheers Grant,
Your words are what 99.99% of us think. You may well know of the hard work put in by everyone and just a smile makes it all worth every bit of effort.
