The Forlorn

The laws of life, death, love… and physics; how do they fit together? THE FORLORN is a clever, playful and facetious comedy focusing on the optimistically absurd (or absurdly optimistic) bond in human relationships. A debut script by Chris Isaacs, THE FORLORN boasts the experienced acting and comedic talent Sean Walsh (States of Shock, Micky.com) and Jimmy James Eaton (The Big Hoo-Haa, How The Quest Was Won) under the direction of Wyatt Nixon-Lloyd (Greed) and is showing at the Blue Room Studio from June 29th until July 15th 2006.

THE FORLORN was discovered at a Red Room reading at The Brass Monkey in September 2005 as part of the Blue Room Red Room readings programme and due to an enthusiastic reception, the script has been keenly cultivated for the stage by eager Perth artists.

Largely influenced by the works of Samuel Beckett and David Mamet, writer Chris Isaacs says he wanted to use common conventions of absurdist theatre by “stripping the stage bare, the plot bare, and all other aspects attributed to theatre to be left with characters and only characters.” He wanted, however, to “stray from the pessimistic portrayal of intrinsic human qualities that [he has] experienced in absurd theatre”. The focus of THE FORLORN is on two characters, One and Two, trying to make sense of the relentless quagmire in which they find themselves, resulting in an ambitious and cheeky look at everything and nothing simultaneously.

THE FORLORN is the second energetic show presented by Weeping Spoon Productions following the success of Greed (2006) and promises an optimistic take on common themes in absurd theatre.

THE FORLORN is showing at the Blue Room Studio, 53 James Street Northbridge from June 29th until July 15th. Tickets through The Blue Room, $15 full/$12 Concession, $12/$10 for Blue Room Members. Phone 9227 7005. For further information visit www.pacs.org.au.

Thought you knew Grimm’s fairy tales? Think again.
Once upon a time…
Hidden in the crevices, drawn from the gutters and alleyways of life, comes a startling retelling of classic fairy tales.
This deliciously wicked and dangerously funny one-woman show stars Helpmann Award winning actor and singer Ursula Yovich (Australia, Jindabyne, Waltzing The Wilarra) playing a cast of bit characters from the stories of Rapunzel, Red Riding Hood, Cinderella and more.
From one of Australia’s most original contemporary playwrights, Vanessa Bates (Checklist for an Armed Robber), this is a black comedy with songs – a night of stories told by twilight (the original kind) with werewolves and with magic…
