Babes in the Wood

LaVerne Kirton

Sallie Ketteringham

Darlington Theatre Players at Marloo Theatre in Greenmount, proudly present a family pantomime by LaVerne Kirton “Babes In The Wood”, directed by Sallie Ketteringham. The season will open to the public on Wednesday November 14 continuing for a four week season where patrons are encouraged to boo the villains and cheer the heroes as one does whilst enjoying a traditional panto.

Prince Caspian of the Kingdom of Lot and Princess Lucinda of the Queendom of Nag sadly despise one another. Will true love arrive for the King and Queen, or maybe Dame Delightful with an unfortunate suitor, or will cupids arrow possibly fall upon Chamberlain Fusspot?

Babes in the Wood has all the markings of a traditional and hilarious pantomime full of dance and song. Some of the other incredulous characters including Nip and Tuck the mischievous zany guards, Trojan the tap-dancing palomino horse, lots of scary forest dwellers, not to mention the evil Maudlin, the outrageous Medusa and wicked Deadly Nightshade.  Then there’s the grotty, snotty and grotesque Boggle. Who knows what he’ll get up to?

Director Sallie Ketteringham says “I wanted to present LaVerne’s version of Babes in the Wood as it was not only re-written especially for us at Marloo but it is a brilliant and hilarious typical pantomime, the perfect show for this time of year, full of songs, dancing, merriment and laughter”.  Ketteringham goes on to say “we have a very multitalented cast, choreographer and musical director, everyone has been working tirelessly including Annie Bramble who has kindly helped me with the costumes.  All these things combined will ensure we have a first rate production that will be enjoyed by all”.

The season opens Wednesday November 14 and runs Wednesday, Friday and Saturday until December 8 with curtain rising at 8pm. There will be three Sunday matinee performances on November 18, 25 and December 2 starting at 2pm. Tickets available through Marloo Theatre Box Office on 9255 1783 and BOCS on 9484 1133 or online www.bocsticketing.com.au.
