Bombshells was originally conceived by Simon Phillips, the artistic director of the Melbourne Theatre Company, who suggested to the playwright, Joanna Murray-Smith, that she write six characters to show the extraordinary versatility of Caroline O’Connor. “Women on the edge” was the theme that united the six characters.
Bombshells exposes six women who “struggle sometimes hilariously, sometimes tragically, to bridge the chasm between the wilderness of their inner worlds and the demands of their outer worlds.” They range in age from a feisty teenager to a 64-year old widow yearning for the unexpected. In this production the multiple lives will be depicted by individual performers.
