DIMBOOLA
A WEDDING RECEPTION PLAY
“A marriage is made to be broken,
The ring you wear is a horseshoe token.
The bonds you forge at the altar
Are really a yoke and a halter…”
DIMBOOLA is a Rabelaisian and rumbustious celebration of the wedding of Morrie McAdam - a protestant, to Reen Delaney - a catholic. No holds are barred as the two families come together for the wedding which Jack Hibberd calls: "the testing of strengths of the newly conjugated tribes". The family members try to preserve social grace and dignity in the face of impending disasters. And disasters there are a plenty! After the drink has flowed a little too freely, mayhem and humour ensures when the families exchange insults and punches, as they resolve to come to terms with the situation.
DIMBOOLA was written by Jack Hibberd in 1969 and had its premiere at La Mama, directed by Graeme Blundell and featured such actors as Bruce Spence, Lindy Davies, John Romeril, Peter Cummins, Kerry Dywer and Martin Phelan. It is said to be Australia's most performed play, with more Australians having seen DIMBOOLA than any other musical, comedy or play. So now… the prodigal play returns home to La Mama after 39 years – be buggered if we’re waiting for the 40th!

Thought you knew Grimm’s fairy tales? Think again.
Once upon a time…
Hidden in the crevices, drawn from the gutters and alleyways of life, comes a startling retelling of classic fairy tales.
This deliciously wicked and dangerously funny one-woman show stars Helpmann Award winning actor and singer Ursula Yovich (Australia, Jindabyne, Waltzing The Wilarra) playing a cast of bit characters from the stories of Rapunzel, Red Riding Hood, Cinderella and more.
From one of Australia’s most original contemporary playwrights, Vanessa Bates (Checklist for an Armed Robber), this is a black comedy with songs – a night of stories told by twilight (the original kind) with werewolves and with magic…
