"How About That"

Fred Petersen

Fred Petersen

Garrick Theatre is proud to present a romantic comedy by local WA playwright and director Fred Petersen How About That. A comedy set in suburban life with young love and situation mayhem.

A comedy about suburban life is generally calm and simple as is that of Ted and Louise Elliott and their only daughter Alison. That is until three ardent suitors, Chris, Andy and Bruce, who are each playing their hand to win the hand of Alison, find that even friends can be competitive.

This friendly war is aggravated by the gossiping and snooping Gladys Cribbs, the Elliott’s next door neighbor, who is missing the attention of her son.

Nanna’s birthday party brings all the warring parties to ahead with a curious but surprising conclusion.

Petersen has performed in countless productions and directed numerous comedies and farces for the Garrick over twenty plus years. He has always wanted to put pen to paper and write his own works and credits the productions he has been involved with for his inspiration.

Petersen says he first wrote How About That as a one act play in 1983, but never put it into production. “In 2007 I rediscovered it in a box of bits and pieces in the garage, re-read it and I decided it could be extended to a full length play”.

So with feverish rewriting and renewed enthusiasm Fred set himself to the task, and with his talented cast and crew the premiere season is certain to be a major highlight of the Garrick 2008 calendar.

Petersen is also well known for his detailed working sets, well renowned in theatre circles for a multitude of doors, windows and even a swimming pool in which cast literally swam in.  No doubt this trend will follow in this production.

This play is suitable for general audiences and all shows commence at 8pm excluding a Sunday early evening performance on Sunday 5 October at 6.30pm.
