MAURICE

Maurice Murphy

Maurice Murphy

From the man behind “The Aunty Jack Show”, “The Norman Gunstan Show” and “15 Amore” comes some ripping yarns of family and friends, tall tales of television and amazing fables of film.

The Bakehouse Theatre, provides the perfect intimate setting for the previous head of comedy at ABC television to let you in behind the scenes for a glimpse of how to make films, and how to live life (he claims they are the same thing) in his charming one-man show “Maurice”.

In “Maurice” Murphy plays an independent film and television financier, director, writer, producer, distributor and coffee maker, who takes you on a tour through his life and good times with stories of the heart, the soul and narrow escapes.

Maurice Murphy tells a good story. So he should. He can’t have been involved in creating such ground breaking comedy as “The Aunty Jack Show”, without having some good stories to tell.

But if that’s not enough proof here are just a few of his other ventures:-

“The Complete and Utter History of Britain” (starring Michael Palin and Terry Jones from Monty Python’s Flying Circus)
“Hark at Barker”, (staring Ronnie Barker)
“Doctor in the House”, (the first English sit-com ever sold to US television)
“News Free Zone” (ABC Adelaide)
and “Let’s Do Lunch”, (in which he took celebrities to lunch and filmed their stories)

“The tales are easy on the ear and amusing. Murphy is a very genial and self-deprecating tale teller”
Stephen Dunne, Sydney Morning Herald, August 21, 2003

Murphy’s best review:
“You’re gonna be a f…ing millionaire.” - Film Festival patron Aspen USA – 1999
