Oscar Wilde’s famous and much loved ‘comedy of manners’ -The Importance of Being Earnest - was first performed on Valentine’s Day in 1895 at the St. James' Theatre in London. It is three acts of glorious language, wit and absurdity that satirises, savagely at times, the manners of Victorian England. Despite its enormous success the first season ran for only 83 performances. The Marquis of Queensbury who so infamously intervened in Wilde’s career was starting to make his influence felt. For those who know the play it needs no introduction, for those who don’t, why not come along and see what all of the fuss was about. The play will be directed by Edgar Metcalfe one of Perth’s leading actor-directors. The Cast includes:
