“There’s only one person in authority here and that’s me”, booms Sergeant Dan Simmonds in David Williamson’s classic play The Removalists”. The play, as frighteningly relevant today as it was when first performed in 1971, questions both the use and abuse of authority in our society.

Kenny Carter is not the perfect husband. But when his wife Fiona and her sister Kate decide to report him to the police over a violent bashing nobody could foresee the tragic outcome. There may only be one removalist in the play, but everyone is guilty of taking something away from somebody else.

The Removalists, a keen observation of suburban Australia, will be acted by senior students of Curtin University’s Performance Studies course under the direction of Lecturer Duncan Sharp who says that “Williamson has a great skill in being able to encapsulate a whole mindset in a single phrase. It is fantastic to work with a script that offers such depth and such clarity."

The Removalists is still a confronting indictment of Australian society and must see for Australian drama students and enthusiasts.
