ALADDIN – the story of a boy

A traditional pantomime written by Tony Nicholls and directed by Duncan Sharp

Somewhere in a far off country, a long, long time ago…a powerful genie who could grant any wish was caught doing something he shouldn’t. As a punishment the Guardians of The Universe imprisoned him in a lamp…

In Ancient China, long before Marco Polo and even longer before the Beijing Olympics there lived a boy called Aladdin who dreamed of being famous, rich and powerful and who never wanted to work a day in his life. In the days before television he couldn’t rely on Chinese Idol, or even on Lotto, so what could he do?

Not far away there also lived a wicked magician called Abanazar who also dreamed of being famous, rich and powerful and who also never wanted to work a day in his life. In the days before electricity he couldn’t host a quiz show, or even be the CEO of Telstra, so what could he do?

A little further away there also lived the Empress Tai Ping whose daughter, Princess Badroulbadour, was the most beautiful girl in the land. The Empress (who never needed to work a day in her life) needed to find someone famous, rich and powerful to marry her daughter. In the days before iron ore magnates and oil speculators what could she do?

Of course, we all know that someone lets the genie out of the lamp but nobody can predict the adventures of Aladdin as he sets out looking for riches and ends up finding his true love.

Hayman Theatre’s much-loved traditional pantomime makes a welcome Olympics-year-updated-return to the stage with all the fun, sing-alongs, thrills and bad jokes of Aladdin, The Story of A Boy.

Roleystone Theatre Inc. (Perth) auditions for
Avenue Q

Robert Lopex and Jeff Marx

Lorna Mackie

Do you love Sesame Street? Ever wanted to stick your hand up a puppet?  Ever wanted to learn the lessons of life from lovable furry characters? Want to know how a monster does “it”? You’re in luck…
The Broadway musical Avenue Q comes to the Roleystone Theatre stage in November, and we are proud to announce auditions will take place on the weekend of 09-10th June 2012.
We are looking to cast 12-17 actors in three human roles and the numerous puppet roles in this unique and exciting project.  No prior experience working with puppets is necessary, but a high tolerance for fur is probably helpful!
Auditionees should prepare one character song, preferably in an American accent, for the first round of the audition. You will also be asked to learn a short set piece which will be provided when you book  your audition, and will need to be delivered in an appropriate “puppet” voice.  Auditionees for some roles have additional requirements.  Auditionees must be 18yrs+
Further details of requirements and audition session times are included below.  To book your auditions, please email the Director (Lorna Mackie) via lorna@htth.com.au or phone 0413031509 (email preferred).
We look forward to seeing you at the auditions!
