An Ideal Husband

Oscar Wilde

Timothy Wallace

Starlight Theatre Co-op's AN IDEAL HUSBAND is a theatrical commentary on love, politics and society – told with venomous, wit and hilarious bite. 5-21 Feburary 2009.

“I adore political parties. They are the only place left to us where people don't talk politics.”

AN IDEAL HUSBAND is filled with broadly brushed dynamic characters who are hiding something from someone else but who ultimately are hiding within themselves. Sir Chiltern’s wealth was made on less than ideal foundations. His devoted wife and suffragette Lady Chiltern places him on a pedestal fitting a man of respectability and purity of merit. Until Mrs Cheveley arrives in London from Vienna bearing news of a soiled past Sir Chiltern was an ideal husband. What will become of this? Will the Chiltern family’s secret become idle conversation in London’s upper echelon while at supper? Proposals for marriage, underhanded deals and blackmail abound in this exciting production of Oscar Wilde’s AN IDEAL HUSBAND presented by Starlight Theatre Co-op.
