An imaginary theatre company prepares to pitch their new play The River of Life to win the chance to open Perth’s new Heath Ledger Theatre. This group of Perth’s leading young theatre practitioners struggle with their creative ideals and clashing egos as they develop a script that celebrates the potency of blood as a life-saver, as a cause of war and a symbol of family. However the creative process is not their only obstacle… on the other side of the world a new blood contagion is rapidly spreading.
Will they win the pitch and open the “Ledge”? Can artistic integrity triumph over commercial demands? Can teamwork overcome the impossible? Must the “show go on” when the world is in danger? Does it take a disaster for the majority of people to donate blood? Do zombies really exist? All these questions will be answered in an explosion of humour, drama and horror.

No, Playlovers is not doing a musical adaption of Tinto Brass's 1992 soft porn movie of the same name. Playlovers is actually doing a classical opera. This is a fully staged production with orchestra and importantly sung in English.
