ITA Robert Finley Awards

Independent Theatre Association

The Independent Theatre Association of WA is proud to present community theatre’s ‘Oscars’ in recognition of amateur theatre’s adjudicated productions for 2008.

The 34th Annual ITA Finley Awards Ceremony will be held on Saturday January 17, 2009 at the Lady Wardle Performing Arts Centre, St Mary's Anglican Girl School, Elliott Rd, Karrinyup.

The Finley Awards night is coordinated by the Independent Theatre Association, a non profit umbrella organisation for community theatre in Western Australia. Four dedicated ITA adjudicators attend every production entered throughout the year both in metropolitan and regional Western Australia. This year the competition is fierce with probably the largest amount of plays and musicals entered, all competeing for their clubs, hoping to return home with their heads proud carrying the honourable Finley.

Awards include Best Play Production, Best Musical Production, Best Actor/Actress, Best Director, Best Supporting Female/Male, Best Emerging Talent, Best Musical Theatre Performer, Best Vocal Direction, Best Set and Best Costumes.

With entertainment snippets from some of the best productions seen in 2008 and an electric atmosphere, if you have ever patronised a community theatre production or have always been curious, then don’t miss this night of nights.

And how many general Joe Sixpacks and Betty Balgas would have a clue what the Tonys are? They're more likely to have a vague idea what the Oscars are - and both recognise performance, sets, direction etc

GOOD PEOPLE
By David Lindsay-Abaire, directed by Kaarin Fairfax
February 3 – March 3
What makes a good person? Is it possible to start life over? When Mike Dillion reconnects with his one time girlfriend from high school a friendship is rekindled. Lindsay-Abaire’s thoughtful new play explores class distinctions and the decisions we make that effect our entire lives.
