The Charlie Gregorini One Act Play Season

Garrick Theatre is proud to present the inaugural Charlie Gregorini One Act Season opening at Guildford’s historic theatre on Wednesday September 2.

Three new plays were selected out of 84 submissions from around the globe after 204 playwrights registered their interest in submitting their fresh new work that have never been performed.

The first play written by New South Wales playwright Philip Ryall is The Chateau, a hilarious comedy on the horror of war set in France 1915 at a chateau not far from the Western Front. A British General and a Corporal wage a desperate struggle to survive by making themselves and their chef Pierre indispensable to the war effort.

The Chateau is directed by Garrick member Linda Redman featuring a stellar cast with Ray Egan as Corporal Jamieson and Douglas Sutherland-Bruce as General Phipps.

Wishes for Sale written by NSW playwright Mary Zegura is a drama about how an old Indian mystic alters the lives of people who come to her for help, by granting their wishes – for a price. Originally from Yugoslavia, Zegura grew up in Guildford (NSW) so, of course, when she spotted WA’s Garrick One Act Play competition situated in another Guildford she couldn’t resist entering.

Wishes for Sale is directed by well known accomplished Perth director Sue Hayward who has produced productions at many popular Perth theatre venues including Playlovers (Floreat), Melville Theatre (Palmyra), Old Mill Theatre (South Perth) and more. Wishes for Sale stars Kerry Goode, David Pragnell, Joan Scafe, Sharon Thomas and Rodney Palmer.

The third play for the evening is WA Paul Beard’s drama entitled Doubting Thomas which revolves around the distraught family of a 14 year old girl who has been missing for three days. The family have to deal with the police enquiries, media, rumours and speculation, when ultimately the family begin to cast their own doubts and suspicions on Thomas, who is telling the truth?

Doubting Thomas is directed by Chris Bedding who is becoming a familiar face at Garrick having performed recently in the Agatha Christie mystery The Unexpected Guest and won an ITA Finley Award for his performance in Amigos. Cast includes Rodney van Groningen, Caz Skelton, Francesca McDade and John Lobb.

The three presented shows will be submitted into some of the State One Act Drama Festivals including Marloo’s inaugural Hills Drama Festival, Bunbury’s South West Drama Festival and the Independent Theatre Association’s DramaFest all held in September.

Proudly sponsored by the City of Swan, The Charlie Gregorini One Act Season will perform four shows only on September 2, 3, 4, 5 all commencing at 8pm. Doors open 30 minutes prior to curtain. Tickets are $16 Adult $14 Concession and $12 for members.
Bookings can be made through the Swan Valley Visitor Centre by phoning 9379 9400.
