Sleeping Beauty in the Woods: Pantomime

The fun, frivolity and celebration of pantomime are on show at the City of Gosnells’ Don Russell Performing Arts Centre when Sleeping Beauty in the Woods visits on Sunday 23 November at 1pm.

Pantomime specialists Wembley Theatre Company (WTC) present a fresh, updated adaptation of the classic fairy tale, direct from its own annual season.

The sleeping beauty in this version of the story is a young girl whose over-protective parents have molly-coddled her terribly. Her experience of life has been restricted to what she has witnessed on the Internet via her laptop and she longs to break free and live a life full of adventure.

Meanwhile a handsome, brave prince and his trusty dog Pug set off on a quest of their own.

The cast of 15 colourfully-costumed performers present lively songs and hilarious jokes in an afternoon of playful entertainment for the whole family.

The play was written by Tony Nichols – former head of theatre at Curtin University – and is directed by WTC founder Bryce Manning.

Expatriate Englishman Nichols’ has been writing and producing pantomimes that have been performed in Australia and New Zealand for more than 20 years.

Manning, a former student of Nichols, has been successfully directing Nichols’ pantomimes for more than decade.
