A comedy institution – and Sydney’s longest running show – turns 22 next week as the contest begins again for Impro Australia’s Holy Grail. Improvised sketches based on audience suggestions similar in nature to the television show Whose Line is it Anyway, this is the nation’s cult comic show Theatresports®.

Like a fine Barossa wine or a King Island brie, this contest is getting better with age as Sydney’s crème de la crème of comic improvisers put their wit and courage to the test to win the Theatresports® Cranston Cup. For ten weeks, ten teams will battle it out at their new home, The Seymour Centre, attempting to reach the Grand Final and get their hands on the classiest and biggest trophy in Australia.

Returning for another year beginning Sunday 28 August, its the perfect opportunity to catch the Grange of Sydney’s comic talent… so put on your Sunday Best and experience Sydney ’s longest running entertainment event.

A Sydney comedy institution, the Cranston Cup season is the company's flagship - an annual cut-throat competition between teams of comic actors. Set the task of creating instant theatrical scenes, poems, songs and even operas with absolutely no preparation time, every show is 'on the edge' and the rivalry is fierce.

This year’s teams are stacked with talent like every other year. Andrew Denton, Wil Anderson, Gary Eck, Gabby Millgate, Gia Carides, Jay Laga’aia, Ewan Campbell, Julia Zemiro, Bec DeUnamuno, Robin Butler, James O’Loghlin and Bianca Dye are just some of the personalities who have cut their comic teeth competing in Theatresports® in the past. One team this year sees Deal Or No Deal’s Andrew O’Keefe, ABC Radio and TV star Adam Spencer and Comedian actor Rob Carlton combine as a Tour De Force - throwing down the gauntlet to all challengers.
