This is Our Youth

Kenneth Lonergan

Scott Northover

In 1982, on Manhattan's Upper West Side, the wealthy, articulate pot-smoking teenagers who were small children in the '60s have emerged as young adults in a country that has just resoundingly rejected everything they were brought up to believe in. The very last wave of New York City's '60s-style Liberalism has come of age - and there's nowhere left to go. In meticulous, hilarious, and agonising details.
This Is Our Youth follows forty-eight hours of three very lost young souls in the big city at the dawn of the Reagan Era: Warren Straub, a dejected nineteen-year-old who steals fifteen thousand dollars from his abusive lingerie-tycoon father; Dennis Ziegler, the charismatic domineering drug-dealing friend who helps him put the money to good use; and Jessica Goldman, the anxiously insightful young woman Warren yearns for. Funny, painful, and compassionate, This Is Our Youth is a living snapshot of the moment between adolescence and adulthood when many young people first go out into the world on their own, armed only with the ideas and techniques they developed as teenagers - ideas and techniques far more sophisticated than their parents ever realise, and far less effectual than they themselves can possibly imagine.

I looked at the Blak Yak website and there was nothing about this there.

Nothing about the production?

Dear DaVinci,

On the left hand side of the page is a menu. If you click "Current Production", it will present to you a copy of the poster. Assuming this poster has all the necessary information, the website would therefore appear to have considerably more than "nothing". It would appear to have "all the information you need".

Otherwise, if you feel the website is in some way too difficult to navigate or that there should be more information, please express so in more detail.

Oh, and the poster has been up for several weeks, in case people think I pulled some internet magicery...

And your point is?

The information about the show is here, you have read it, whats the problem?

And while I am here I'd like to say that this will be be fine production, get aong to see it, I'd hate to see a repeat performance of the abysmal turnout at Deus Ex Quanta.

Regards

Robert

Obviously you've now heard about the show. Publicity is therefore pretty good. I'll be publishing a paper called "Silopsism and Theatre Promotion" later.

I think the only way you can really find out the extent of our publicity failures is to submit the following survey to all of your friends (for a good-sized focus group):

1)Have you heard about this play called "This Is Our Youth"?
2)Shall we go to see it?
3)Do you have any friends who might like to see it?
4)What nights are they free?
5)So we'll all go together?
6)Can you remember the number for BOCS?
7)Wait, HOW many tickets am I booking again?

Regards,
Scott Northover

462 people viewed the production listing on this site for DEQ and 402 people read my little rant, posted on the 31/05, about the show. I think maybe 20 people actually saw it.

At this rate, next year's line up will be Red Dwarf V, Pratchett's latest book adapted for the stage, Black Books II, Dr Who and The Importance of Being Earnest.

Please, please, please come and see This is Our Youth. This is me begging, see me begging? It's a good show and it deserves a decent audience. All of the important information is available above.

Melissa

You'd better do as she says. She has a lion.
