Absent Friends

Alan Ayckbourn

Susan Hayward

UPDATED INFORMATION- CHANGE OF DATES!

Owing to circumstances completely out side our control - trite but true -the production has been delayed by one week and will now open on Thurssday April 30 for a TWO week season only. Please see calendar for new dates.

Absent Friends is one of Alan Ayckbourn's trade-mark co- medies- extremely funny, but with a  deft touch of reality!

Colin's friends invite him round to tea in an effort to 'cheer him up' following the death of his fiancee. a girl none of them have ever met. When he arrives he is remakably cheerful and it is they who obviously have the problems!!

The character of Colin has much in common with that of Norman in The Norman Conquests, the type of person who goes gaily through life creating havoc and confusion as he goes in everyone else's life while being blissfully unaware of the effect it has on those around him.

Most of us either know or have been in contact with a 'Norman' or a 'Colin' so we can laugh - often ruefully- at the chaos such people can cause.

Sue has chosen a wonderful cast, with Chris Juckes (Norman in the Old Mill's Round & Round the Garden) playing Colin, very ably complemented by Kylie Calwell, Ann Speicher, Graeme Johnson, Elizabeth Jansen and Jeff Hansen as the friends.

This is the second production in Melville Theatre Company's mainly light-hearted year of entertainment. Following the sell-out season of Doctor in the House we are confident that this comedy will be equally as popular and succesfull.
