This witty and charming adaptation for theatre of Pygmalion, which was written by George Bernard Shaw, begins with a chance meeting between two well known British linguists, Professor Henry Higgins and Colonel Hugh Pickering.
They wager that they can transform an unrefined Cockney flower girl, Eliza Doolittle, into a Victorian lady and to present her at court. Her father, Alfred P. Doolittle tries to cash in on the scheme whilst pretending to protect Eliza’s virtue.
A young aristocrat, Freddy Eynsford-Hill, falls in love with her under the illusion that she is of the same class, but Eliza has grown rather fond of the professor yet leaves him when he fails to recognise her efforts. Now she feels torn between both worlds and has to decide where she belongs.
