What drives a man to the bottom of the earth?
TERRA NOVA is a play about courage under adversity. Based upon the journals of Captain Robert Scott, the play describes the heroic ordeal that he and his crew experience in their race to the South Pole. Narrowly beaten by his rival, the Norwegian, Roald Amundsen, the team perishes in unforgiving circumstances on their return to base. The play highlights the cultural and tactical differences between Scott and Amundsen. Scott’s wife Kathleen challenges his motives and this obsession. She vows to protect their young son from similar patriotism and fervour.
Shane Rodwell is Designer-in-Residence at Starlight Theatre Co-op and Director for this quality play. This is his second production as Director with Starlight after his highly acclaimed production of “Proof” in 2008.
Set in the unforgiving, relentless cold of the Antarctic, Tally’s beautifully constructed play brings to life the formidable characters with humour, pathos and intensity.
