Polyglot

Polyglot Theatre’s Check Out! is a wickedly funny work of theatre about the consumer culture bonanza. Set in a supermarket, Check Out! follows the remarkable adventures of tantrum-throwing Baby who is determined to get what she wants. Filled with puppetry at its most inventive and cheeky, Baby soon meets shelf products which come to life, and Speedy who helps her discover that you need more than just stuff to see you through.

Fast paced and physical, Check Out! is a very funny and ever-so-scathing take on parent/child relationships and the market power invested in children. Designed as a cure for affluenza, Check Out! is a muzak-filled slapstick puppet tale which will make sure that a trip to the supermarket will never be the same again.

Check Out! has been one of Polyglot’s most successful productions, touring across Australia and in 2009 playing at the Shanghai International Children’s Theatre Festival, where it won the award for Excellent Production.

For kids under 12 and their families.

‘A cautionary tale… with lots of the mess and yuck and screaming farce that kids love and Polyglot Theatre is so deft at’
Alison Barclay, The Herald Sun

'…it was impossible not to laugh'
Caitlin Crowley, The Groggy Squirrel

Philip Barry

Joy Sweeney

After getting a divorce from C.K. Dexter Haven, Tracy Lord prepares to marry again… however, in the days before her wedding, Haven and a reporter, posing as her brother’s friend, show up at her doorstep. From there, Tracy is forced to choose among her past love, her present love and her new love. Amidst the situation comedy, and fast-paced dialogue, Barry explores several contemporary social issues, such as society’s perception of class differences in America and attitudes towards adultery and divorce in the 1930’s.
