Godspell is a rock musical written by Stephen Schwartz, the setting is an abandoned inner city playground. The era is late 60's early 70's in a layback hippie lifestyle.

Jesus is a charismatic individual, he is the sort of person everyone wants to follow. The character of John the Baptist /Judas has attributes of both Biblical figures, he is both Jesus’ lieutenant and the most ardent disciple and the doubter who begins to question and rebel. The disciples are made up of males and females and take on the roles in a playful attitude and play-out the parables with a sense of fun and beauty created from urban garbage.
