The Wizard of Oz is a classic musical based on L. Frank Baum’s much-loved fairy tale. The Royal Shakespeare Company stage version closely follows the familiar 1939 MGM film version starring Judy Garland, Ray Bolger, Jack Haley and Bert Lahr. Featuring classic songs such as “Ding Dong The Witch is Dead”, “If I Only Had A Brain”, “We’re Off To See The Wizard” and “Over The Rainbow”, WoZ is a fable that portrays what the human spirit can achieve when blessed with friendship, self-discovery, and hope.
The Hornsby Musical Society production will of course stay true to the core spirit and values that has made Wizard of Oz such an iconic part of our consciousness. However, we will also be making bold updates to the presentation of the show to give it vibrancy, impact and relevance for 21st Century audiences. The fantastic, dream-like Utopian/Dystopian nature of the Land of Oz will be presented through the use of multi-media imagery, with acting and music will be seamlessly integrated into the performance - just add courage, heart and brains!
