Edgar Metcalfe

A Sparkling new Australian Comedy!

Veteran Perth actor, director and playwright Edgar Metcalfe’s With Friends Like These… will make you laugh ‘til you cry at the twists and turns of his artfully contrived, fast moving, and embarrassingly familiar, comedy of (bad) manners. Metcalfe’s wicked wit, cunning characterisation and meticulous observations (combined with a tortuous plot) will have you sitting on the edge of your seat, cringing in anticipation of the next faux pas and guaranteeing a great night at the theatre!

With Friends Like These… takes us to a Sunday barbeque at the ostentatious executive home of wealthy pizza parlour magnate, Frank, and his pretentious Pommy wife, Joanna, in one of Sydney’s most sought-after locations.

The party is intended to welcome back Frank’s area manager, Steve, from a spell in Perth, and to celebrate Steve’s engagement to Frank’s ex-secretary Nell. Other guests include Frank’s accountant Doreen, her husband Bertie, Frank’s footie-playing brother Mitch and his simple but loving wife Sandy. Nobody wants to be there, but all have to humour ‘the Boss’ – artfully aided and abetted by Joanna’s envious visiting older sister Gloria - and of course it turns into an unmitigated disaster.

With Friends Like These… features Greg Ross, Irene French, David Bruce, Laura Djanegara, Meredith Daniel, Barry Park, David Gregory, Bethwyn Legg & Kerri Hilton.
