WAYTCo proudly announce our major scripted work for our 21st Anniversary Season.
Clark in Sarajevo (by Catherine Zimdahl) is a darkly comic and exciting examination of how we in the comfortable West struggle to comprehend the anarchy and brutality of events like the Siege of Sarajevo. A young Australian journalist seizes the chance to be a war correspondent and have an adventure. His zeal to provide a good story and remain neutral is sorely tested as he plunges into the dark world of war and ethnic politics; soon he experiences more than he bargained for and becomes too deeply involved.

This physical, action packed and innovative piece of theatre (with a cast of 16 of Perth’s most exciting Perth young actors) will keep audiences on the edge of their seats. With NATO and the UN currently involved in a new round of civil uprisings in the Middle East the same question remains – when is it morally right to intervene in civil war and how do you determine where the moral right lies when violence continues to beget violence?

This extraordinary work was written by Catherine Zimdah, who began her theatre training at W.A.s Curtin University before making a career in Sydney as a film writer and playwright.
Former Artistic Director of WAYTCo, Jenny Davis is directing. The Company wished to celebrate is 21 years of excellent theatre making by inviting back its most successful former director. One of Perth’s best loved actors Jenny is also an excellent director of strongly physical works, and embraces plays that inspire young performers to look deeply into themselves and their world.

Clark in Sarajevo opens on Friday May 27. This gala performance will segue into a 21st Birthday Party at the theatre. The show then runs for a further two weeks until Saturday June 11, with a VIP night on Friday June 3. Performances at 7.30pm in the Studio at the Subiaco Theatre Centre.
