Some Enchanted Evening opened last week on 6th Feb in Garrick theatre in Guildford. Directed by Carolyn Latter, this production is a musical romp through some of the greatest works of Rodgers and Hammerstein, including highlights from "Flower Drum Song", "The King and I", and "The Sound of Music", and is a delight to watch.

Richard Bradshaw is perhaps one of the best known Australian shadow puppeteers, and after this
week’s workshop, I wanted to check out his show. It was at the Wardle Room in the Perth Concert Hall, a space which looks to be a conference room for most of the time. The room is longer than it is wider, and the stage is set up along the longer wall, to the right of the entrance. Curtains are pulled around this rather large three-walled screen, with a small white light in front of the screen, and one being placed behind to create the silhouettes.

Angel is a performance by Duda Paiva Puppetry and Dance, a company based in the Netherlands. This Australian premiere was performed at the Rechabites’ Hall, and boy was it different from the way Diva was set up.

I've just come back from Diva, and wow!!! (It's more than absolute must see... I'd travel to another country to see this again!)
This was an Australian premiere of the performance, coming from Denmark, and rumours have it that it was selling fast. This review not only makes it clear why, but at the end, you will understand just how amazing this performance really is. While the below endeavours to capture as much of the description of the show as possible, it is really impossible to do so, without photos or without seeing the show yourself. It's indescribable. However, if you go to the production company's website, you'll see plenty of great photos (the first link at the top of the post, takes you to the UNIMA booking page; this one goes to the actual website for the show).

Thought you knew Grimm’s fairy tales? Think again.
Once upon a time…
Hidden in the crevices, drawn from the gutters and alleyways of life, comes a startling retelling of classic fairy tales.
This deliciously wicked and dangerously funny one-woman show stars Helpmann Award winning actor and singer Ursula Yovich (Australia, Jindabyne, Waltzing The Wilarra) playing a cast of bit characters from the stories of Rapunzel, Red Riding Hood, Cinderella and more.
From one of Australia’s most original contemporary playwrights, Vanessa Bates (Checklist for an Armed Robber), this is a black comedy with songs – a night of stories told by twilight (the original kind) with werewolves and with magic…
