Expressions of Interest. Audition date to be advised. Richmond Players is a community based amateur theatre company in the far north western suburbs of Sydney. The company is planning to produce Our Country's Good with performances in August, 2010 and rehearsals starting in late May. The play has up to seventeen male roles and five female roles. We are especially looking for amateur male actors. Contact Harry Terry (see telephone number and email address) for more information.
This is part of the Macquarie Bicentenary celebrations.
Our Country’s Good is the story of convicts and Royal Marines of the First Fleet of 1788. It follows Second Lieutenant, Ralph Clark's attempts to put on a production of The Recruiting Officer with a cast of male and female convicts. The play shows the class system in the convict camp and discusses themes such as sexuality, punishment, the Georgian judicial system, and the idea that it is possible for ‘theatre to be a humanising force'.

In 1973 Rocky Horror was performed at the London Royal Court Theatre Upstairs for the very first time, in 1974 the film was made that would start a world-wide revolution (almost single-handedly) that would enable people to put their frocks on, take their clothes off, and realise that their sexuality was something that they could embrace, no matter what the flavour. "Don’t Dream It, Be It!" became a mantra for the time, and that time lasted through the first Mardi Gras March, the Belmore Park Hotel Drag-Shows, the shoulder-pad-wearing, Pete’s Beat attending, Cappriccios dancing set. Through, the Midnight Shift-gyrating, backroom-fondling, Late-night-Hoyts-screening, back-row heavy-breathing, pool-ball-sized-eye-dancing DCM and Exchange Hotel Days, through Mardi Gras’ renaming, rebirthing, Anniversary-marching halcyon days. And you know what? Rocky Horror, and the safe accepting space it generated, was a part of ALL of that.

Separating The Dust will be performed across the VDL One Act Play series.

SYNOPSIS:

The mourners have left, their kind thoughts exchanged, the sandwiches and tea have been served. After the funeral service for Mrs Virginia Cromwell, her sons Michael and Chad discuss their mother’s Final Will and Testament. It’s no secret to the boys their late mother’s Final Will and Testament has been divided equally. Chad makes his announcement to contest the Will for his lions share; Michael defends his ground. Chad’s wife, Raelene makes her true feelings known about Michael to both of them, which only aggravates the underflow of smouldering years of unspoken hatred between the three of them. The little church on the hill where the funeral service for Mrs Virginia Cromwell was held prepares for another funeral service to be held at five.

Based on John Updike’s acclaimed novel

Brad Tudor

The Witches of Eastwick is a gothic comedy about a small town rocked by a mysterious newcomer with devilish charm.

Based on John Updike’s acclaimed novel and the hugely successful 1987 film starring Jack Nicholson, Cher, Michelle Pfeiffer and Susan Sarandon, the musical is in turns cheeky, romantic, hilarious and sexy.
