Dancing Chicken Films is seeking a male actor, thirty-five to fifty years in appearance, who is available for filming for a few days in January 2010.

The film will be about twenty to thirty minutes in duration, and will be entered at MIFF, as well as various other short film festivals nation-wide.

Details:

Auditions were held at Beaumaris Theatre this past weekend. However we were unable to cast the role of Stanley Kowalski. We are looking for an actor with a stage age of 30-40 years, with a masculine, raw persona.
All other parts have been cast.
Synopsis: Blanche DuBois arrives at the apartment of her sister Stella and her husband Stanley Kowalski. Blanche is a relic of the Old South, Stanley a Polish immigrant, powerful and confident. A Streetcar Named Desire is a reflection of old America and the thriving new America of the immigrants. There is constant conflict between reality and fantasy, actual and ideal. The clash between the two culminates in tragic ramifications for all.
Other Information: Rehearsals will be Tuesdays and Thursdays commencing November 26th 2009, but with a break over Xmas.
Performance dates in 2010 for ASND will be Friday March 12th 8pm, Saturday March 13th 8pm, Thursday March 18th 8pm, Friday March 19th 8pm, Saturday March 20th 8pm, Sunday March 21st 5pm, Thursday March 25th 7pm followed by a "question and answer" session, Friday 26th March 8pm, Saturday 27th March 8pm.

Went along to the recent auditions for The Big Hoo Haa which was an eye opener. For someone who sees themselves as a reasonably confident performer I had trouble in maintaining eye contact with anything but the sides of the stage and what's worse - I blanked. Totally. Nothing there. Panicked. Blanked some more. Half-arsed finish and retired to my seat a chastened man.

I'm interested to hear from casting directors how important it is to have a showreel. I've been told that without a showreel a casting director won't even consider looking at an actor's resume.
