Falsettos

‘Falsettos the musical’ is the Tony Award winning musical based on the book by James Lapine and William Finn, with music and lyrics by William Finn. The show ran for 500 performances on Broadway in 1992. This great two and a half hour show is being presented at the Old Mill Theatre, Corner of Mends Street and Mill Point Road, South Perth. Nightly at 8.00 pm until Saturday 18^th February.

When we are married

‘When we are married’ is a 1938 play by the English novelist J B Priestley who was famous for ‘An Inspector Calls’ and suing Graham Greene for defamation. Priestley despised the conceit and duplicity of the Edwardian middle classes, and this play was a tongue in cheek attack at them. Presented in the Limelight Theatre, Civic Drive, Wanneroo, the two and a quarter hour play starts at 8.00 pm.

Standing Bird

‘Standing bird’ is an original concept by Sally Richardson. Produced by Performing Lines WA, it is being performed in the PICA Performance Space, James Street, Northbridge. The 45-minute spectacular starts at 9.30 pm each evening until Sunday 12^th February (No show on Saturday 11^th)

‘New Two’ is now in Week Two. Each week this 60-minute production, gives us two or three different, fresh short plays as part of Summer Nights 2012. They are presented at The Blue Room Theatre, 53 James Street, Northbridge. The Wednesday night line-up is repeated Friday at 8.00 pm, next week will see two more very different plays.

‘Virgie’ was written by WA actor, Renee Newman-Storen who has recently achieved her PhD in English. As part of the Fringe World Summer Nights series, this production from theMOXYcollective is being presented until the 10^th February. The 50-minute performances are in the Blue Room Studio, 53 James Street, Northbridge each evening at 7.00 pm.

‘Proximity’ is a Fringe Festival World First – a micro festival within the festival. Showing every Sunday until the 19^th February, are groups of 12-minute performances at 3.00 pm, 4.00 pm and 5.00 pm. ‘Missing’ is the first play by Irish born actress Sandi Buckley, who is now Perth-based and part of the Black Swan Young Writers Programme. A Satellite Artist Production (Australian First) the play is at The Blue Room Theatre, 53 James Street, Northbridge. The 55 minute play runs until Saturday 4^th Feb. All shows are at 7.00 pm.

‘The White Divers of Broome’ is an adaptation of the third novel by ex-barrister, John Bailey. This version is by the NIDA trained and Australian award-winning playwright, Hilary Bell. Hilary is the daughter of John Bell, of ‘Bell Shakespeare’ fame. Hilary last proved her immense talent when she gave us the 2007 Deckchair Theatre’s fabulous and ingenious play about a feral girl, ‘Memmie Le Blanc’.

‘The Day the Sky Turned Black’ is a 55-minute play, written and performed by Australian actor, Ali Kennedy-Scott, returning to her home country after theatre training in the UK, which was followed by an extensive tour of this show.

I'll admit I had to drag myself out to see this, put off by the concept and by a general dislike of absurdism. But as I knew two of the actors involved I put in an appearance...well.

Little Women - the musical

‘Little Women – the musical’ was adapted by Allan Knee from Louisa May Alcott's 1869 semi-autobiographical novel. Allan is a cinema scriptwriter, probably best known for the 2004 film of Peter Pan, ‘Finding Neverland’. Jason Howland, well known for his major musical ‘Jekyll and Hyde’; composed the musical score. Mindi Dickstein added the lyrics, when she was still in her thirties. The first production ran on Broadway for 192 previews and performances. It premiered in Australia in 2008.
