I saw the last night of this Wanneroo Rep production on Saturday 16/09/08. It was a fast-moving farce in the 'No Sex Please - We're British' tradition, with a bunch of severely flawed characters weaving tangled webs as they try ineptly to avoid the most trivial consequences of their outlandishly foolish behaviour. Despite the flimsiness of the plot, the dodginess of the foreign accents and the tackiness of the set, the large audience loved it! I even found myself doubled up over the some of the more skilful and vigorous sequences, such as the 'putting on the trousers in a hurry' and the 'taking off the socks in a hurry' ones.
I understand that farce has a long history, even predating Shakespeare, which alone gives it every claim to being an art form, although somehow I doubt that the typical audient would see it that way. It would be nice if someone would produce a farce that had a bit more relevance to Australian society today though.
Well done, all.
