Playlovers do it again

Johnny Grim | 19/08/2007 - 12:43

I can't for one minute pretend that I'm qualified in any way to review theatre productions, however, what I can say, is that the most recent productions from Playlovers ('Eurobeat') and the current production of 'The Vagina Monologues'are a credit to the Playlovers team.

I'd heard a bit about the Monoluges before now, but here I was seeing it for the first time. I went along expecting a comedy, in the style of 'Menopause the musical', of course, this play has much more. One minute funny, the next sombre, and thought provoking (especially for we mere-males). The cast were superb, in delivering, what in truth, is a potentially difficult subject matter (ha!)Great performance ladies. Be proud! The healthy audiences are richly deserved.

cheers

As to the above notice - I had major trouble getting tickets for this show but something luckily popped up on the opening night -Friday - so myself and three friends went along.

We had a great time. I myself have read these monologues several tiems over - it was a close consideration for my TEE piece alst year - so am quite familiar with them. Still it was a delight to see them actually performed.

I must give congrats to the girls because it is for many people a confronting and uncomfortable subject matter - for men and women alike.

But my two favourites remain my two favourites - Moaning and The Angry Vagina.

For my friends this was their introduction to community theatre and i'm sure they'll be out for more now. thanks again for a the great entertainment.

I am in fact registered to the site, hence my user name appearing at the top of my post. The negative and pointless comments that so many people seem to post on this site does nothing to unite the community, but rather divide it. I personally know of many many people who just dont bother to come here and post anymore for this exact reason.

Have a look for yourself through the posts and it is the same small group of people who are posting all of the time. What does this tell you.

I dont want to get into an argument over all of this, its just my opinion at the end of the day and an observation I have made.

I thought the whole idea of this site was to promote theatre both pro and community, yet there seems to be so much slagging going on that it just drives people away. if that is the way that the admin wants it, then fine, that is his / her choice, but personally I would have thought that they would do everything possible to make this site informative and collaborative so that ultimately everyone benefits.

Just my humble opinion.

Richard

Richard, I didn't know you

Richard, I didn't know you were a member. At the time of my posting, I looked at your post, and thought it wasn't a registered person. My apologies.

Yes, there is only a number of people who regularly post; but you will find that it is extremely difficult to encourage participation on any web site, no matter how popular or informative it is.

The idea of this site is to promote theatre, and if you do not like the slagging on the site, then do what nobody else is doing: participate and moderate the posts. If you want to have more informative posts, then lead by example.

I agree with you entirely, but as you may have seen of late, the admin has had his hands full just trying to keep the site going. He probably doesn't have time to moderate every single thread and post himself. It's up to us to encourage better participation from the community.

Playlovers Inc. (Perth) auditions for
Cosi fan Tutte

W.A. Mozart and Lorenzo da Ponte.

Musical Director: David Hardie. Stage Director: Paul Treasure.

No, Playlovers is not doing a musical adaption of Tinto Brass's 1992 soft porn movie of the same name.  Playlovers is actually doing a classical opera. This is a fully staged production with orchestra and importantly sung in English.
