Maybe some of those people being turned away at Garrick could find their way to the New Fortune Theatre at UWA. As Alicia said in her review hereunder, this is a classy show in many respects, albeit under-attended on the night I was there.
Grant Watson and his talented team have certainly brought a fresh approach to this time-honoured classic tale of treachery, triumph and true love, backgrounded by bloody war. In particular, the 'rattling' pace combined with the well-tuned body language made it easy for the spectator to understand what was going on, even if the spoken language was hard to decipher occasionally. The net result is that there is hardly a dull moment throughout, except perhaps for the mushy bit at the end.
Since Alicia has named her favourite character, I will also depart from my usual form and give my vote to Ash Jones' most engaging portrayal of the swaggering 'Pistol' - especially as I understand it is virtually his first time onstage. Well done all.
