She Stoops to Conquer

I sat in on the final dress rehearsal last night.
Very impressed.
This play stands the test of time so well, and is still hilarious.

Director Stephen Lee has, as always, found every possible opportunity to get a laugh; some of them very cheap, but aren't they often the best giggles?
Bosom gags, dick gags, mistaken identities, ribald double-entendres.
It's got the lot, reinforced by some huge character performances.

The Cast: top notch.
Costumes: dead right, another superb job by Merri Ford.
Set: damn slick if I do say so myself.
Lighting: Excellent. Powered by Josh Vietch.

If you're only going to see one show in November, do yourself a favour and see this one. A true classic, beautifully crafted by Director, Cast and Crew.

While this is posted in the review forum, I didn't read it as an unbiased review. I thought Jonno's comment about the set indicated he was involved.

Strikes me as a Promotion rather than a review. Shameless promotion and good on them for doing so. If you are proud of something you've worked on, you should be able to shout it to the world.

Like this "I think The Admirable Crichton" will be brilliant. Of course it will ... I'm directing it, and I have no self-delusions in anyway.

S'cuse me. Time for my pills.

I saw SSTC on Friday night and it runs for this week as well.

Yes, it is funny.

Yes, there are some great character performances.

Yes the set is good (and even gets a few laughs of its own).

The costuming is excellent. (when was the last time anyone saw a well-crafted farthingale?)

It's a long show but worth it.

I have no association with the company apart from knowing some people in the cast. But, then again this is Perth and who doesn't?

I saw the show on it's final night, and was blown away. The set indeed was excellent, Jonno.
The cast were, for the most part, very accomplished.

In particular..

Kerri Hilton was hilarious, and I found myself comparing her character with Tim Brooke-Taylor's Lady Constance, from many years ago. I think we had a couple of Kerri's students sitting in front of us, or they found her particularly hilarious, as they were almost rolling on the floor whenever Kerri appeared.

David Gregory "inhabits" his characters, and was a joy to watch.

Well done to Stephen, and his cast and crew for a very entertaining evening. It was disappointing to see the Dolphin only half full on closing night.

***EDIT***** My mistake. Yes, the show still has a week to go. I saw the show on a comp ticket, which had Saturday as the last date on it, but I guess it was the last date the comp was valid.**************

Final night is in a week's time. You still have time to catch it. SSTC closes on Saturday 14th Nov. Please come along to one of the last four shows if you haven't seen it already.
